Bauhaus in the information society
| Pieter Wisse Information Dynamics, The Netherlands |
Abstract
How, and where, do we educate designers of our information society? We can, and should, draw lessons from Walter Gropius’ vision of the Bauhaus. An especially critical relationship exists between designer and principal. From a shared social responsibility, their efforts, contributions, etcetera, should be both mutually supportive and complementary. But, then, how, and where, do we actually educate … principals? In practice, the designer’s work often includes first of all educating responsible principals, at least trying to do so. It therefore is a difficult task for which s/he must be prepared, too.
